The Club has approximately 3,500 members worldwide. We represent every continent and have members in more than 60 countries, comprising 34 chapters around the globe.

Today there are more than 800 female members of The Explorers Club. Forty years ago, in the spring of 1981, there were none. But efforts were underway to change that.

Headquartered in New York City with a community of Chapters around the world, The Explorers Club has been supporting scientific expeditions of all disciplines, and uniting our members in the bonds of good fellowship for over a century.
The Club welcomes visits by members, scholars and others interested in the history and practice of exploration. Building tours are offered at most public events, check out our events schedule to find out more.
If you wish to join the Club and are without sponsorship, you may submit an application. If qualified, we will suggest a member who may be willing to sponsor your application. In the meantime, as an Unsponsored Applicant you are advised to reach out to the chapter of The Explorers Club nearest you and become involved.

When did the Explorers end?
The Age of Exploration (also called the Age of Discovery) began in the 1400s and continued through the 1600s. It was a period of time when the European nations began exploring the world.
Within their Unit, Explorers are part of a Patrol - smaller groups of Explorers who look out for one another, and help each other grow. Explorers usually gather in their Patrols at the beginning and end of meetings. They might also stick together on expeditions or trips away, or during certain activities.
